Karthik Subbaraj releases first single from film Dorothy

Director Karthik Subbaraj has released ‘Kalyana Virundhu’, the first single from his upcoming film Dorothy. The track is composed and written by maestro Ilaiyaraaja and performed by Yugendran, Anthony Daasan, and Priya Jerson.

Described as an ‘Ex-Wedding Paattu’, the upbeat song features a retro musical style reminiscent of Ilaiyaraaja’s work from the 1980s and 1990s. Subbaraj expressed that working with the veteran composer was a ‘lifetime dream’ and described the music as his ‘soul therapy.’ Filmmaker Venkat Prabhu also praised the release, noting it would be ‘a blast in theatres like the good old days.’

Dorothy stars Keerthy Suresh, Sananth, and Rishikanth. Set in a village in Tamil Nadu, the film follows the lives of two friends, Karthi and Subbu, whose survival is tested by a harsh reality shaped by patriarchal hierarchies and violence. The film is scheduled for its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
