Karur stampede: CM Vijay pays tribute to 41 victims on first anniversary

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay paid tribute to the 41 victims of the Karur stampede on the first anniversary of the tragedy. The incident occurred on September 27, 2025, during a political rally held by his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), at Velusamypuram. The crowd crush resulted in 41 deaths and left over 100 people injured.

In a social media post, Vijay described the event as “a wound that does not heal” and expressed profound grief for the families affected. Following the tragedy, the Supreme Court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct an investigation.

Legal proceedings continue regarding compensation and employment for the victims' families. While the Madras High Court previously struck down a government decision to provide jobs to the kin of the deceased, the Supreme Court has since stayed that order. Financial assistance was provided by the state government, the central government, and the TVK party to support the bereaved families. Vijay has also announced plans to construct a memorial in Karur to honor those who lost their lives.
