Karwar Naval Base: CDS inaugurates new residential blocks

Chief of Defence Staff General N. S. Raja Subramani has inaugurated new residential accommodations for senior sailors and Defence civilians at the Karwar Naval Base in Karnataka. The project is part of Phase IIA of Project Seabird, which aims to support the basing of ships and submarines at the location.

The new infrastructure includes residential towers for senior sailors and Naval Defence civilians, living quarters for 156 Defence Security Corps personnel, and a KG school. The residential units were constructed by Hyderabad-based NCC Ltd, while the trunk infrastructure was completed by Cemindia Projects.

Project Seabird Phase IIA also encompasses the construction of a dual-use Naval Air Station, a full-fledged Naval Dockyard, and various logistics facilities. The development is designed to meet IGBC Gold rating standards and aligns with the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, with over 90 per cent of materials and equipment sourced domestically.
