Karşıyaka Mayor Ünsal Outlines Resilience Plan at Brussels UNESCO Conference
Karşıyaka district mayor Yıldız Ünsal spoke at the International Cultural and Natural Heritage Conference in Brussels, a UNESCO‑partnered event under the EU Horizon Europe RESILIAGE project. In her presentation she detailed the municipality’s science‑based approach to reducing disaster risk, covering measures for earthquakes, climate change, heatwaves, floods, forest fires and sea‑level rise. Ünsal stressed that resilient cities require strong infrastructure combined with broad community participation and the protection of cultural heritage as an integral part of resilience policy. The conference also examined joint work between local governments, universities, NGOs and international organisations to promote sustainable urban development.
