Karşıyaka Mayor Yıldız Ünsal Highlights Debt Repayment and Urban Projects

Karşıyaka Mayor Yıldız Ünsal reported that the municipality has eliminated six years of accumulated debt, achieving zero current liabilities. All outstanding staff salaries have been paid, and half of the debt of the subsidiary Kent AŞ has been cleared. The city has also settled its social security (SGK) and tax obligations for the past 27 months and is awaiting ministry approval for a debt‑restructuring plan.

Ünsal outlined upcoming urban initiatives, including the push for construction of the long‑delayed Karşıyaka Stadium, standardised shop signage with wooden bases and brass lettering, and the purchase of fifteen new waste‑collection trucks funded by a municipal loan. He voiced opposition to a proposed waste‑facility at Yamanlar and to the sale of the IZKA land in Mavişehir, while advocating for the completion of an opera house in the district.

These statements were made during a visit to GÜNDEME BAKIŞ, where Ünsal also highlighted the municipality’s improved fiscal discipline and its commitment to further infrastructure upgrades.
