Karyofyllia Karampeti calls for state action against violence against women

Greek actress Karyofyllia Karampeti has spoken out regarding the urgent need to address gender-based violence and femicide. In an interview with radio station Athens 98.4, prompted by her upcoming performance in Euripides’ ‘Medea’, Karampeti expressed deep sorrow and anger over the ongoing violence against women.

She criticized the mindset of men who view their partners as property rather than free individuals. Karampeti emphasized that the state must move beyond merely recording incidents and instead provide active, practical protection for women. She specifically cited the murder of Kyriaki Griva outside a police station as a failure of the system, and noted instances where women seeking help from authorities were met with indifference.

Karampeti called for collective social action and increased civic engagement to demand better protection and systemic change.
