Kash Patel faces Senate scrutiny over FBI conduct and film payments
FBI Director Kash Patel faced a contentious Senate Judiciary Committee hearing where Democratic senators accused him of using the bureau to intimidate journalists. Senator Cory Booker alleged that the FBI has targeted reporters and their families following critical coverage. Patel denied these allegations, calling them a “total lie” and defending the FBI’s performance regarding crime, drugs, and fraud.
Separately, scrutiny has been directed at a $25,000 honorarium Patel received in 2024 from Global Tree Pictures for participating in a documentary series. While the payment was disclosed during his nomination process, reports have linked the filmmaker behind the company, Igor Lopatonok, to projects that have promoted pro-Russian narratives and Kremlin-aligned positions.
