Kashihara City partners with Capcom to promote tourism via Street Fighter
Kashihara City in Nara Prefecture is expanding its urban development initiatives through a partnership with Capcom, utilizing the ‘Street Fighter’ video game series to promote tourism. This initiative follows the recent designation of the ‘Asuka-Fujiwara no Miyako’ region as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The collaboration is rooted in the connection between the city and Capcom founder Kenzo Tsujimoto, who is a native of Kashihara. Previous efforts include the installation of bronze statues of characters such as Ryu, Chun-Li, Ken, and E. Honda, as well as themed manhole covers and decorated station signs.
Under the ‘Street Fighter Street’ concept, the city is transforming the area around Kintetsu Yamato-Yagi Station into an immersive environment. This includes a large-scale mural featuring 29 characters, character-themed station decorations, and voice actor announcements at stations to highlight local sightseeing spots. The city is currently seeking donations through a ‘Street Fighter Objet Production Project’ to fund the creation of additional character statues and public art.
