Kashmir Pushes Digital Skills to Future‑Proof Workforce

Digital transformation is reshaping workplaces worldwide, with global spending on digital initiatives projected to exceed US$4.6 trillion by 2030. International bodies such as UNESCO, the OECD and the World Economic Forum define digital skills as the ability to find reliable information, communicate clearly, create digital content, solve problems with technology, protect personal data and use tools responsibly.

In the Indian-administered region of Kashmir, the push for these competencies is already visible. Students increasingly rely on online platforms for learning, professionals use virtual meetings and cloud tools, entrepreneurs market goods through social media and e‑commerce, and small businesses adopt digital payments. A growing number of Kashmiri freelancers are securing contracts with clients across India and abroad, illustrating how digital literacy expands employment opportunities.

Experts note that alongside technical proficiency, strong communication—including clear, concise language, active listening, empathy and cross‑cultural awareness—remains essential for effective collaboration in hybrid and remote environments. Building these combined skill sets is presented as a way for the region’s workforce to adapt to rapid technological change and remain competitive in the global economy.
