Kashmiri Pandits face ongoing threats and targeted hit lists

Kashmiri Pandits continue to face significant threats, including the circulation of hit lists containing personal details such as names, occupations, and residential addresses. These targeted threats and killings are part of an ongoing effort by terror groups to eliminate Pandit influence from the Kashmir Valley.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah has faced criticism for dismissing recent threat letters received by the community. Critics argue his response reflects a sympathetic stance toward separatist ideologies.

While some Pandits have attempted to resettle in the Valley through individual efforts or group movements, others returned under a 16,000-crore rupee rehabilitation package announced in 2008. These individuals often hold government positions under specific conditions requiring them to work within the region.
