Kashmiri Pandits in Jagti camps allege political exploitation

Displaced Kashmiri Pandits residing in Jagti township and surrounding camps have accused political parties of exploiting their plight for election manifestos without providing long-term solutions. Describing themselves as "political orphans" and the "new untouchables," residents claim that promises made by various parties, including the BJP, Congress, PDP, and National Conference, regarding their safe and dignified return to the Valley often vanish after elections.

Community members expressed grievances regarding deteriorating infrastructure and a lack of functional civic representation. Tito Ganju, chairman of Panun Kashmir, highlighted concerns regarding political disenfranchisement, noting that displaced members are often compelled to vote in Kashmir despite residing in areas like Jammu or Delhi, which strips them of an effective electoral voice in their current locations. Residents have called for a clear roadmap and political accountability to ensure a life consistent with constitutional protections.
