Pakistan marks Youm-e-Istehsal as India denounces observance
Pakistan observed Youm-e-Istehsal on August 5, marking the seventh anniversary of India's revocation of Articles 370 and 35A in 2019. The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) and Pakistani officials called for nationwide solidarity rallies across the federal capital, the four provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit‑Baltistan, as well as events at Pakistan’s missions abroad. Rallies featured flags, banners and a minute of silence, and participants appealed to the United Nations to intervene in the disputed territory.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs, through spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, rejected the observance, calling it a "political absurdity" and reiterating that Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh are integral parts of India. The ministry accused Pakistan of spreading propaganda, diverting attention from its own human‑rights record, and alleged that Pakistani security forces have used lethal force in Pakistan‑occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Pakistan’s diplomatic corps also highlighted the day, with the ambassador to Afghanistan, Ubaid‑ur‑Rehman Nizamani, reaffirming support for Kashmiri self‑determination at a ceremony in Kabul. The United Nations’ position on the Kashmir dispute was noted as unchanged.
