Kasia Smutniak presents Mustang documentary at Rome Film Fest

Actress and director Kasia Smutniak presented her documentary “Mustang” at the Rome Film Fest. The film is a deeply personal project based on amateur footage recorded in 2003 during a trip to the Mustang region of Nepal with her late partner, Pietro Taricone.

During that journey, the couple made a promise to return and help protect the local culture. Following Taricone’s death in a 2010 skydiving accident, Smutniak worked to fulfill this commitment, eventually helping to establish the Ghami Solar School in the region.

The documentary features the narration of their daughter, Sophie Taricone, who rediscovered her father’s old video recordings and traveled to the region herself to complete the narrative arc. The film explores themes of memory, loss, and the passage of time over a 23-year period.
