iPhone 18 Pro Max hype exploited by global fake shop scams

Cybercriminals are exploiting the high demand for the iPhone 18 Pro Max by launching a global wave of fake online stores and fraudulent pre-order offers. These scam websites use deceptive interfaces to mimic credible retailers, often promising significant discounts of up to 25% to entice unsuspecting buyers.

Security experts, including those from Kaspersky, have identified that these fraudulent sites operate in multiple languages, such as English, Arabic, and Portuguese. The scams utilize various tactics to extract sensitive information, including full names, phone numbers, email addresses, and WhatsApp contact details. Victims are often prompted to provide complete credit card information or are encouraged to make payments using Bitcoin.

Beyond financial theft, some schemes involve tricking users into installing unofficial apps that can lead to remote device locking or further social engineering attacks. Some fake shops even offer deceptive terms, such as the ability to pay a partial balance later or promising full refunds upon cancellation, to lower the victim's guard.
