Kaspersky warns of rising cyber threats against SMEs and parked domains

Kaspersky has released findings regarding evolving cybersecurity threats targeting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and individual users through deceptive web practices.

In the Middle East and Africa (META) region, 82% of SMEs reported experiencing at least one cyber incident in the past year, compared to 58% globally and 58% in Turkey. Major threats identified include phishing, exploitation of software vulnerabilities, ransomware, and attacks targeting artificial intelligence security gaps. Financial loss was a primary consequence, reported by 26% of respondents in Turkey. Attackers are increasingly focused on data theft, specifically targeting customer data, financial credentials, and internal corporate strategies.

Additionally, Kaspersky warned of the risks associated with “parked domains”—unused web addresses that appear as empty pages or placeholders. Scammers exploit these domains to collect sensitive personal information, including IP addresses, location data, and browser fingerprints through techniques like Canvas and WebGL profiling. These methods allow attackers to track users and identify devices even without traditional cookies.
