Kassel Huskies face major injury setbacks with Benson and Rutkowski sidelined

The Kassel Huskies ice hockey team faces significant roster setbacks ahead of their training camp in Zell am See, Austria. Strikers Tyler Benson and Maciej Rutkowski have both sustained injuries.

Canadian forward Tyler Benson suffered an Achilles tendon injury that will require surgery. The club indicated that he is not expected to play again in the 2026 calendar year. Benson, a top scorer for the team last season, is one of the club's key import players.

Maciej Rutkowski is expected to be sidelined for approximately six weeks due to an lower-body injury.

Sport Director Daniel Kreutzer stated, "The news about Tyler and Maciej is very bitter for all of us. Both are important parts of our team and, above all, great characters." The club is currently evaluating how to respond to Benson's long-term absence, including monitoring the transfer market.
