Kast administration faces scrutiny over high official turnover

The administration of President José Antonio Kast has seen 43 officials depart their posts in just over five months. This turnover includes three ministers, six subsecretaries, 33 regional ministerial secretaries (seremis), and one provincial delegate.

Recent departures include Sports Minister Natalia Duco, following controversy regarding the use of a state vehicle. Her exit follows previous departures of Public Security Minister Trinidad Steinert and Government Spokesperson Mara Sedini. The high rate of rotation has raised questions regarding the government's management capacity and ability to maintain order and efficiency, which were key campaign promises.

Legislators from the Bancada de la Gente, including deputies Pamela Jiles and Paula Olmos, have raised concerns regarding a perceived gender bias within the administration. They noted that all three female ministers who left their posts were replaced by men. Deputy Jiles argued that while male ministers have faced political issues and remained in office, female ministers appear to be held to a different standard when facing errors or controversies.
