Kastamonu calligraphy exhibition showcases young Hüsn‑i Hat artists
An exhibition of traditional Turkish‑Islamic calligraphy was opened at the TDV Bookstore in Kastamonu after Friday prayers. The show, organized by master calligrapher Altan Yılmaz, displayed works created by students who completed a two‑year Hüsn‑i Hat course at the Turkey Diyanet Vakfı (TDV) dormitory. Around twenty participants presented their pieces, which attracted strong interest from local residents.
Yılmaz, who left a career in business management to devote himself to calligraphy, highlighted Kastamonu’s historic role in the art, citing past masters such as Kazasker Mustafa İzzet Efendi and Şevki Efendi. He emphasized the dedication of the young calligraphers and the importance of preserving the Hüsn‑i Hat tradition for future generations.
