Kastamonu court begins trial for fatal shotgun shooting in Cide

The trial has commenced in Kastamonu regarding a fatal shooting in the Cide district that occurred on January 14. The defendant, identified as İ. O., is accused of intentional homicide following a dispute that began over a telephone call.

According to court proceedings, the conflict escalated after İ. O. engaged in a heated argument with F. Ü. and Eray Eriş. İ. O. allegedly retrieved a shotgun from his home and confronted the individuals in front of an apartment building. Eray Eriş was struck by gunfire and subsequently died at Cide State Hospital.

During the hearing at the Kastamonu 1st High Criminal Court, İ. O. expressed regret, stating, “I am regretful, I am a hardworking person.” He claimed the incident was triggered by insults directed at his family and deceased father during the phone argument. The defendant also mentioned a history of psychological treatment.

F. Ü., who is facing charges of attempted intentional homicide, testified that the defendant fired twice while they were attempting to flee. The court is currently re-evaluating evidence to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
