Kastamonu family files criminal complaint against contractor over unbuilt home

The Sönmez family, who lost their home to a fire in the Daday district of Kastamonu on May 9, 2025, has filed a criminal complaint against a contractor for alleged fraud.

Following the fire, which was caused by an electrical short circuit, the family reached an agreement with a contractor, identified as H. İ. K., to build a new home on land allocated by the Daday District Governor's Office. According to the family, they signed a contract for 700,000 TL and paid an initial 500,000 TL.

Despite the payment, the family claims that no construction has begun approximately one year after the agreement. As a result, the five family members have been living in a single-room container and tents for roughly 1.5 years. The Kastamonu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has been notified regarding the failure to complete the construction and the refusal to refund the paid amount.
