Kastamonu traditional handicrafts showcased in Altınköy

Artisan Dilek Türkkan showcased traditional Kastamonu handicrafts, specifically the 'Çarşaf Bağı' and 'tırnak bağı' knotting techniques, at an event in Altınköy held from August 11 to 23.

Türkkan, who has practiced the 'tırnak bağı' art for 25 years, presented various items including hats, covers, bags, and tablecloths made with 100% cotton thread. Her work incorporates other regional crafts such as stone printing and 'sarı yazma'.

She noted that the knotting art has historical roots dating back to the Hun Turks in the 7th and 8th centuries, with ancient examples preserved in the Topkapı Palace and ethnographic museums. Türkkan emphasized her role as a carrier of cultural heritage, aiming to preserve traditional patterns—such as 'Kabak çiçeği' and 'güneşli yürek'—for future generations.
