Kastoria receives two restored Byzantine churches, Minister Lina Mendoni says

Greek Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni handed over two fully restored Byzantine churches in Kastoria: the Church of Taxiarchi Metropolis and the 13th‑century Church of Saint George in Omorfoklissia, which houses a rare full‑length wooden‑carved icon of the saint. The restorations removed centuries of soot, revealing a richly coloured fresco decoration. Mendoni emphasized that Kastoria, together with Mount Athos and Meteora, forms one of the three main pillars of the country's Byzantine and ecclesiastical tradition, and stressed that restored monuments should be reintegrated into the daily life of the local community. The projects reinforce Kastoria’s status as a leading centre of Byzantine cultural heritage in Greece.
