Kataka police arrest sixth suspect in highway gang rape case
Police in Kataka, Odisha, have arrested the sixth suspect involved in the gang rape of a 26-year-old mall employee. The incident occurred in the early hours of August 12 along the Cuttack-Chandbali highway within the Nischintakoili police limits.
The victim and a male friend were traveling to Kendrapara when they stopped near a petrol pump to rest. According to authorities, six men smashed the vehicle windows, abducted the pair, and took them to an isolated field at Aenda. The man was thrown from the vehicle while the woman was gang-raped inside.
The latest suspect, a 19-year-old from the Kendrapara district, had reportedly fled to Kolkata and Visakhapatnam to evade capture after selling his mobile phone. He was apprehended near OMP Square after returning to the area by train. He has been produced in court following a medical examination.
