Katalin Karikó's life to be portrayed in new theatrical production
A new theatrical production by EgyÉletem Produkció will bring the life of Nobel Prize-winning Hungarian biochemist Katalin Karikó to the stage. The play, scheduled to premiere on November 15 at the Átrium, features award-winning actress Dorottya Udvaros in the lead role.
Based on Karikó’s autobiography, ‘Breakthroughs – My Life and Science’, the performance focuses on the human story behind her scientific achievements. It highlights her perseverance through repeated failures and rejections before her research became fundamental to the development of modern mRNA vaccines, which earned her the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2023.
The production, written by Bence Bíró and directed by Renátó Olasz, aims to portray the personal struggles and decisions that shaped her career. Following the Budapest premiere, the play is set to embark on a national tour, with planned regular performances in the capital.
