Katalog music player launched for Mac users with large archives
A new music player application called Katalog has been released for macOS, specifically designed for users managing extensive local music collections. Developed by Mike Soops of TG Labs, the software aims to provide advanced management features similar to the classic iTunes experience but optimized for modern workflows.
Katalog is built to handle massive libraries efficiently; the developer demonstrated the app loading a collection of over 91,000 tracks totaling 668 GB in less than one second. The application works directly with existing music folders without moving or renaming files, ensuring that metadata such as covers, lyrics, and ratings remain embedded within the original audio files.
Key features include integration with Apple Music, Serato, and rekordbox, allowing for the import of playlists and ratings via XML files. The interface offers four distinct workspaces, including specialized tools for DJ set preparation, song version comparison, and the creation of music packages. Additionally, the software includes utility tools to detect duplicate recordings, missing files, and discrepancies in MP3 bitrates.
