Katarzyna Bosacka disputes Mateusz Gessler over restaurant tipping

A debate has emerged in Poland regarding restaurant tipping practices following comments by restaurateur Mateusz Gessler. Gessler suggested that customers should leave tips as a matter of obligation, even in instances where a service charge has already been added to the bill.

Journalist Katarzyna Bosacka has publicly disagreed with this stance. While acknowledging the difficulties of the restaurant business and expressing appreciation for service staff, Bosacka criticized the practice of 'hidden service' fees. She noted that when service charges are added to a bill without being clearly disclosed in the menu or by staff, customers often inadvertently leave a double tip.

Bosacka stated that such practices make customers feel ‘cheated’ and warned that applying pressure in this manner can discourage patrons from returning to specific establishments.
