Joanna Jabłczyńska replaced in Nigdy w życiu! sequel

A casting controversy has emerged regarding the upcoming film “Nigdy w życiu! 20 lat później,” a sequel to the 2004 Polish romantic comedy. Actress Joanna Jabłczyńska, who played the character Tosia in the original, will not return for the new production. Instead, Agnieszka Żulewska has been cast in the role.

Jabłczyńska expressed deep disappointment, describing the decision as an “enormous blow” and an “injustice.” She claimed that after initial discussions and meetings with the director, she was informed that a major financier had their own preferred candidate. Producer Anna Wichłacz countered this by stating that Jabłczyńska participated in a formal casting process alongside five other actresses and was ultimately not selected.

The news has sparked significant backlash from fans, including online petitions and calls for a boycott. Screenwriter Ilona Łepkowska also expressed confusion over the decision. Author Katarzyna Grochola clarified that the new film is based on the fifth book in her series and is not a direct continuation of the first film, though it features returning characters like Judyta, played by Danuta Stenka.
