Katarzyna Kotula files criminal complaint against Kaja Godek's foundation
Katarzyna Kotula, the Polish Government Plenipotentiary for Equality, has filed a criminal complaint against the Life and Family Foundation, led by activist Kaja Godek. The legal action follows an incident at a hospital in Wrocław, where a patient seeking a legal abortion due to threats to her health or life was reportedly prevented from receiving the procedure.
Kotula alleges that the foundation obtained and utilized sensitive medical data belonging to the patient. She stated that the foundation’s activities bear “signs of terrorism” and called for prosecutors to secure all digital media, including emails and social media accounts, used by the organization. The minister also intends to involve the Office for Personal Data Protection and the Patient Rights Ombudsman to investigate how private medical information was leaked from a Polish hospital.
This development occurs alongside recent legislative activity in the Sejm, where two abortion-related bills were passed. One project aims to partially decriminalize abortion performed with a woman's consent, while the other seeks to restore the legality of abortion in cases of severe and irreversible fetal defects.
