Katarzyna Niewiadoma's family alleges intentional push during Tour de France Femmes

Controversy erupted during the Tour de France Femmes following an incident on stage 8 involving Polish rider Katarzyna Niewiadoma and French rider Célia Gery. Niewiadoma’s father, Stanisław Niewiadomy, alleged that Gery deliberately pushed his daughter toward a curb during a descent, an action he claims was intended to benefit race leader Demi Vollering. The family stated that video analysis reinforced their belief that the move was intentional rather than an error caused by exhaustion.

The incident intensified a long-standing rivalry between Niewiadoma and Vollering, who have consistently competed for podium positions in major races since 2022. Following the stage 8 confrontation, social media saw significant backlash, including threats directed at Gery.

Despite the tension, Vollering and Niewiadoma reported making peace after the final stage. Vollering, who secured her second Tour de France Femmes title with a 1:16 general classification lead, emphasized that her team deserved the victory through performance rather than the incident, stating, “I wanted to make it clear that we as a team deserve to win a beautiful Tour de France Femmes with humility and with pride.”
