Kate Crawford joins Weizenbaum Institute as Distinguished Fellow in Berlin

Prof. Kate Crawford, an American AI researcher and research professor at the University of Southern California who also serves as senior principal researcher at Microsoft Research in New York, will hold a one‑month Distinguished Fellowship at the Weizenbaum Institute in Berlin from 2 August to 2 September 2026. During the fellowship she will work with institute scholars and engage the public on the societal, political, economic and environmental implications of artificial intelligence.

Institute director Christoph Neuberger said Crawford’s participation strengthens the institute’s international exchange and brings new perspectives on the challenges of digitalisation in Germany and the EU. Since its founding in 2017, the Weizenbaum Institute has hosted more than 360 fellows from 47 countries, fostering cross‑disciplinary research on AI and its broader impacts.
