Kate Koval leaves LSU women’s basketball program

Kate Koval has decided to leave the LSU women’s basketball program for personal reasons, according to head coach Kim Mulkey. Koval, a 20-year-old forward who transferred from Notre Dame, completed one season with the Tigers in 2025.

During her tenure at LSU, Koval appeared in 35 games and made 17 starts. She averaged 8.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, shooting 56.0% from the field. Her departure leaves a significant gap in the Tigers’ frontcourt, as she was expected to serve as a primary rim protector and rebounder in the upcoming season.

Coach Mulkey stated that the decision was difficult for Koval and emphasized that the program will respect her privacy. Mulkey noted, “Kate is a great person. She has to do what she feels is right for her, and we fully support her in that.”
