Kate Middleton visit sparks Reggio Emilia-inspired preschool project in Besozzo, Italy

A recent visit by Kate Middleton to Reggio Emilia nurseries heightened public interest in the Reggio Children approach across the Varese region. Inspired by the visit, the Bottega delle Scoperte association in Besozzo launched an educational project for children aged 2 to 6, based on active, outdoor‑learning methods championed by Loris Malaguzzi. Founded by educator Silvia Sciacca, the initiative has already engaged around 260 families and will open in September, capable of hosting up to 12 children with two teachers.

Separately, Emilia Carla Maria Nironi recalled her experiences with the Reggio Children movement, noting Malaguzzi’s nickname “fulmine di guerra” and her role in advocating for early‑childhood legislation that was eventually passed with the support of former President Sandro Pertini.
