Prince and Princess of Wales visit Belfast to support youth homelessness initiatives

Prince William and Princess Kate visited Belfast, Northern Ireland, on October 9 to support initiatives aimed at combating youth homelessness. The royal couple focused their visit on Homewards, a five-year program launched by Prince William in 2023 designed to prevent and address homelessness.

During the visit, the couple attended The Commons, a former church converted into a community center, to meet with participants of the New Employment Opportunities Network. This pilot employment project in Northern Ireland helps young people gain job skills, stability, and long-term independence, with plans to expand the concept to four additional locations across the United Kingdom.

The visit also drew significant attention to the Princess of Wales’s attire, which included a green tartan skirt by Emilia Wickstead. Observers noted the potential symbolic connection of the tartan pattern to Northern Irish history and the use of green to reflect Irish symbolism.
