Kaštela hosts emergency services open house for children

The City of Kaštela organized an open house event in Kaštel Stari to mark the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. The event aimed to educate local kindergarten and school children about the work of emergency services and civil protection.

Various organizations participated, including three local volunteer fire departments, the Croatian Red Cross, the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service, emergency medical services, and the police. Demonstrations included CPR training using mannequins and presentations of firefighting equipment.

To promote safety, the Civil Protection of Kaštela distributed educational leaflets titled ‘Resilience Starts at Home,’ which provide guidance on emergency procedures for earthquakes, fires, and floods, as well as the importance of family emergency plans.

Dr. Antonija Žanić, head of the Kaštel Stari emergency medicine post, highlighted the utility of the LUCAS 3 mechanical chest compression device. This device, valued at approximately 20,000 euros, was previously donated to the Split-Dalmatia County Emergency Medical Institute by the City of Kaštela under Mayor Denis Ivanović.
