Katende Dam construction reaches 20% completion in Kasaï Central

National and provincial deputies from Kasaï Central recently visited the Katende hydroelectric dam construction site in the Dibaya territory to monitor progress. The delegation included former governor John Kabeya Shikayi and deputies Jerry Mulamba Mande and Alidos Tshitoko.

Project officials report that construction is currently 20% complete, having commenced in May 2025. While the project team remains committed to completion, they noted significant logistical challenges, specifically regarding the transport of materials and the condition of roads and the SNCC rail network.

Elected officials have called for public mobilization and patience, emphasizing the long-term importance of the dam in providing electricity to the province.
