Katerini Municipal Library Summer Reading Campaign Engages Over 200 Children

The Municipal Library of Katerini launched its summer reading and creativity campaign with the slogan “Books, windows open.” More than 200 children aged five to twelve took part in a week‑long program that combined interactive workshops, poetry sessions, and hands‑on activities such as drawing, pottery and the exploration of unusual book formats (pop‑up, accordion, audio, glow‑in‑the‑dark, etc.).

Volunteers and library staff guided the participants through poems by Nobel laureates and classic Greek poets, set to music by M. Theodorakos, and encouraged them to write their own free‑verse poems and create art inspired by literature. The event was supported by the Katerini municipality, with Mayor Ioannis Dountos and Deputy Mayor Elena Diamantopoulou publicly thanking the volunteers for their contribution.

The campaign aims to foster a love of reading, critical thinking and cultural participation among the town’s youth during the summer months.
