Katey Sagal Talks Late Motherhood and Life in Her Seventies
Actress Katey Sagal, now 72, revealed on Ted Danson’s podcast “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” that she gave birth to a daughter at age 52. Her husband, writer‑director Kurt Sutter originally opposed having children, but after five years the couple pursued surrogacy, resulting in the birth of Esmé Louise Sutter in 2007. Sagal also reflected on aging, saying that reaching her seventies has not diminished her desire for meaningful relationships or new experiences. She recalled earlier personal loss—a daughter, Ruby, who died in the eighth month of pregnancy in 1991—and how that shaped her later decision to become a mother through assisted reproduction. The interview highlighted her view that older adults can still pursue family goals and enjoy vibrant personal lives.
