Kağıthane balcony collapse damages home, resident files complaint

During an urban‑renewal demolition in Kağıthane, Istanbul, a construction dozer’s bucket struck the balcony of a neighboring four‑storey apartment building. Part of the balcony and an adjoining pantry fell into the construction zone. No one was injured, but resident Burak Eşcan reported hearing a loud noise that he first thought was an earthquake. After seeing the balcony collapse, he said he no longer felt safe in his home and lodged a formal complaint with police and municipal authorities.

Fire, police and municipal teams arrived, recorded the incident and halted demolition work pending investigation. The contractor said engineers would be sent and repairs would be completed within 10‑15 days, and promised compensation for the damage. The case remains under technical review.
