Kağıthane District Launches 10‑Dunam Animal Rehabilitation Center in Istanbul

Kağıthane Municipality in Istanbul inaugurated the Can Dostlar Ofisi, a 10‑dunam (10,000 m²) rehabilitation centre for stray cats and dogs. The facility includes a 1,500 m² indoor area and an 8,500 m² outdoor green space, staffed by 50 personnel, including five veterinarians. It can house up to 180 cats and 60 dogs at the same time and provides 24‑hour care, surgical suites, intensive‑care units, a fully equipped veterinary laboratory, digital X‑ray and ultrasound imaging, and separate heated and ventilated units for cats and dogs.

The opening ceremony was attended by Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, Kağıthane Mayor Mevlüt Öztekin, Kaymakam Yüksel Kara and other local officials. Gül emphasised that “animals will be cared for in appropriate conditions and their reproduction must be curtailed,” while Öztekin described the centre as a model of “social municipal services combined with advanced technology.” The centre aims to reduce stray‑animal problems through neutering, treatment, and promotion of adoption, operating seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
