Katharina Kiel urges Bundesliga clubs to adopt minimum salaries
Katharina Kiel, president of the newly established league association FBL, is calling on clubs in the German women's Bundesliga to implement minimum salary requirements. Kiel asserts that all clubs must be capable of meeting these standards to ensure long-term participation in the top flight.
While a formal minimum salary has not yet been established, discussions have previously centered around a gross monthly amount of 3,000 euros. According to a DFB report for the 2024/2025 season, the average monthly basic salary was approximately 4,500 euros, though significant pay disparities exist between top clubs like Bayern Munich, VfL Wolfsburg, and Eintracht Frankfurt, and smaller clubs such as 1. FC Nürnberg or Mainz 05.
The FBL aims to strengthen the professional status of female players. Starting in the 2027/28 season, the highest German women's league will manage its own marketing and organization under a basic contract with the German Football Association (DFB).
