Katherine Theodotou sues UK police and RSPCA over forced cat seizure

Dr Katherine Theodotou, a 79‑year‑old former solicitor of Cypriot origin, sued the Metropolitan Police and the RSPCA after officers used a battering ram to break down the front door of her London home and seize her disabled 17‑month‑old cat Rita in March. The seizure followed a complaint alleging mistreatment of the cat. Theodotou claims the report was malicious and that the force used was excessive.

Rita died suddenly while in RSPCA foster care. At a High Court hearing, Mr Justice Kimblin ordered a joint post‑mortem to be carried out by an RSPCA veterinarian and an independent vet chosen by Dr Theodotou. Video footage released later shows police battering the door before taking the cat. The case centers on the return of Rita’s remains and damages for the alleged unlawful entry.
