Kathy Hochul reports lower NYC housing crime and warns of scams

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has announced several state-level developments involving public safety, consumer protection, and her reelection efforts.

Regarding public safety, NYPD data shows that New York City public housing recorded its lowest levels of murders, shootings, and robberies during the first seven months of 2026. Murders in public housing fell 45% compared to the same period in 2025, while shooting incidents declined by 33.3%. Hochul attributed these trends to nearly $4 billion in public safety investments made during her tenure.

In consumer protection, Hochul issued a warning regarding a potential scam targeting Holocaust survivors. An entity calling itself the ‘Jewish Holocaust Claims Center’ has been soliciting survivors for compensation claims. The New York State Department of Financial Services could not verify the group's legitimacy and has referred the matter to law enforcement and the inspectors general of New York, New Jersey, and the U.S. Postal Service.

Additionally, Hochul has launched a multimillion-dollar statewide advertising campaign for her reelection. The campaign includes television and digital ads designed to highlight her economic agenda and contrast her platform with Republican candidate Bruce Blakeman.
