Kathy Johnson recognized for stabilizing University of New Orleans

Outgoing University of New Orleans President Kathy Johnson is being recognized for her role in stabilizing the institution during a period of significant financial and enrollment crises. Her leadership facilitated the university’s recent transition back into the LSU System, now operating as LSU New Orleans.

Johnson is credited with addressing deep deficits through transparency, securing state funding from legislative leaders, and implementing necessary budget cuts. To support faculty facing increased workloads, she also personally took on teaching responsibilities.

The university’s milestones, including its return to the LSU System and the 50th anniversary of its summer session in Innsbruck, Austria, were celebrated by students, faculty, and alumni.
