Kathynmarissa wins Flower Bowl Stakes at Belmont Park

Kathynmarissa secured a three-quarter-length victory in the $500,000 Grade 2 Flower Bowl Stakes at Belmont Park. Ridden by jockey José Ortiz and trained by Chad Brown, the five-year-old mare overcame a mid-pack position to power past Sunlit Uplands in the final strides of the 1 1/4-mile race on the inner turf.

The win, completed in a time of 2:00.58, earns Kathynmarissa a fees-paid berth in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf, scheduled for October 31 at Keeneland Race Course. Trainer Chad Brown noted the mare’s resilience, stating, “I just think the last 70 yards was just heart for this horse.”

The Flower Bowl Stakes was rescheduled to Thursday following a nor'easter that impacted previous racing dates. Sunlit Uplands finished second, while Evershed took third.
