Katie Taylor to fight farewell bout at Croke Park

Irish boxing legend Katie Taylor is set to retire following a historic farewell fight at Croke Park in Dublin this Saturday, September 5. Taylor, a 40-year-old Olympic gold medalist, will face undefeated French challenger Flora Pili for the undisputed super lightweight championship. The bout will feature multiple titles, including the WBA, IBF, WBO, and the vacant WBC belt, for which the WBC has introduced a special ‘Queen of the Celts’ belt.

The event is expected to draw over 80,000 fans, marking a significant moment for Irish sport. Promoter Eddie Hearn has described the occasion as the ‘biggest night in the history of Irish sport.’ The undercard includes heavyweight bouts such as Dave Allen versus Thomas Carty, and the evening will feature a headline musical performance by Westlife.

Taylor enters the ring with a professional record of 25-1. Her career has been defined by breaking barriers in women’s boxing, including headlining Madison Square Garden. Pili, holding a 12-0 record, enters as the underdog but aims to secure a major upset in Taylor’s final professional appearance.
