Katihar floods trigger protests over inadequate relief work

Severe flooding in the Katihar district of Bihar has led to public protests and political tension regarding the adequacy of government relief efforts. During a visit to assess the situation, Bihar Minister Pramod Kumar Chandravanshi faced anger from local residents in the Barari Assembly constituency. Protesters alleged that relief camps were misplaced and that many severely affected areas, such as Ward No. 17, remain without any operational camps despite being surrounded by water.

Local leaders, including Sarpanch Mohd Irshad, criticized the minister for failing to visit actual relief camps and raised concerns regarding local MLA Bijay Singh, alleging he threatened residents when they raised demands for soil excavation.

In the Manihari assembly constituency, Independent MP Pappu Yadav also visited flood-affected areas to meet with victims as residents continue to deal with partially submerged neighborhoods.
