Katkin Park in Košice-Západ to host ceremonial reopening

The revitalized Katkin Park in the Košice-Západ district is scheduled for a ceremonial opening on Sunday, August 16, at 16:00. The project, which focused on enhancing green and blue infrastructure, cost over 1.01 million euros, with funding approved by the Košice Sustainable Urban Development Cooperation Council and additional contributions from the Západ district.

The renovation, carried out by Metrostav Slovakia, transformed the area into a modern, barrier-free space designed for recreation, sports, and entertainment. Key improvements include the installation of a new fountain, drinking fountains, and two rain gardens to assist with water retention.

Infrastructure upgrades involved replacing asphalt paths with permeable surfaces, updating street lighting, and installing new furniture, benches, and waste bins. To improve accessibility for seniors, parents with strollers, and people with disabilities, several stairs were replaced with ramps. The park also features a modernized children's playground with a marine-themed design, as well as areas for volleyball and basketball.
