Katowice Airport reports record passenger numbers and expands winter routes

Katowice Airport is experiencing record-breaking passenger numbers, with 7.3 million travelers served in 2025 and monthly figures exceeding one million during the summer months. The airport serves as a major economic driver for the Silesia region, with an estimated total impact of 5 billion PLN and a workforce of over 5,200 people.

For the upcoming 2026/2027 winter season, Ryanair has announced new direct connections from Katowice to Turin, Naples, and Malaga. The airline will maintain a base of three aircraft at the airport. Additionally, Air Arabia will launch a regular connection to Sharjah, providing transit access to destinations such as the Maldives, Thailand, and Kenya.

Despite the growth, airport leadership advises caution due to geopolitical tensions in Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as rising aviation fuel costs. Long-term projections suggest airport employment could reach 7,000 people by the end of the decade.
