Katowice invests in sports funding and local infrastructure
Katowice is implementing a multi-faceted approach to sports development, combining significant municipal funding with infrastructure improvements. The city allocates approximately 33 million PLN annually to local sports, with over 25.5 million PLN directed to the multi-section club GKS Katowice. This financial model relies on a three-pillar system: municipal subsidies, corporate sponsorship, and tax incentives related to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
Local sports clubs are increasingly diversifying their revenue streams through private capital. Companies utilize sponsorship agreements to deduct expenses from business costs and benefit from a 50 percent tax relief on CSR activities. This shift marks a transition from the historical patronage of state mining enterprises toward a modern commercial ecosystem involving sectors such as digital entertainment and municipal utility companies.
In addition to financial support, the city has completed a 3.2 million PLN investment at Primary School No. 62. The project includes three new sports fields (basketball, handball/football, and volleyball), a 52-seat grandstand, and a 160-square-meter traffic training town for bicycle license examinations. Further infrastructure upgrades are underway, including the modernization of the Orlik facility at the Bugla Recreational and Leisure Center.
