Katowice hosts Future Mining Forum & Expo to discuss industry transition
The Future Mining Forum & Expo has commenced in Katowice, bringing together experts to discuss the future of the mining sector, energy security, and the management of critical raw materials. The event aims to address the restructuring and gradual phase-out of coal mining while exploring how the industry can adapt to modern technological and geopolitical challenges.
Discussions at the forum emphasize the importance of the surrounding mining industry, which employs many specialists and develops new technologies. Marcin Krupa, the President of Katowice, suggested that the expertise and knowledge gained from traditional mining could be repurposed for new sectors, including potential applications in space research and lunar missions.
Representatives from major companies, such as Polska Grupa Górnicza (PGG), are also participating to discuss the role of coal in meeting current energy demands and how national energy and climate plans will shape the industry's future.
